Top Twenty Event
TOP TWENTY CONFORMATION EVENT
The stated purpose of the Top Twenty is to encourage the showing of Saint Bernard dogs in conformation classes, and to provide an educational experience for judges, exhibitors, breeders, and fanciers. The Top Twenty Conformation Event is held to honor and celebrate those Saint Bernard dogs. This event will provide special recognition to those Saint Bernard dogs with the most outstanding records, as well as their breeders, handlers, and owners. It will also provide an incentive to strive for breed excellence.
There are no eligibility requirements other than qualifying for the final top twenty Saint Bernard dogs in conformation standings. The Top Twenty standings are based on show results (number of Saints defeated by being awarded Best of Breed) as published in the AKC GAZETTE AWARDS for a specific 12-month period preceding the National Specialty. For the 2010 Top Twenty this period is June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010.
A committee selects the judges and their names are held in secret until the actual hour of judging the Top Twenty. There are three judges: 1) an AKC approved Saint Bernard Breeder Judge; 2) an established Saint Bernard Breeder who has been breeding for at least ten years, having bred or co-bred at least ten champions of record as can be verified in the AKC Gazette; and 3) a Multi-breed AKC judge approved to judge Saint Bernard dogs and at least 8 other breeds in any group.
The Top Twenty Saint Bernard dogs are invited by written invitation. There is an entry fee to participate in the Top Twenty Conformation Event. There is a dress code. The handlers of the Top Twenty, the judges, the stewards and the emcee will dress in formal attire ~ tuxedo or gowns. Spectators are asked to dress in semi-formal attire ~ business suits or cocktail dresses. Spectators are also welcome to come in formal attire if they so wish. Catalogs will feature a color photo, a biography and a pedigree of each Top Twenty Saint Bernard and will be sold at the event.
The winner of the Top Twenty will be announced at the end of the evening of the Top Twenty competition.
